Due to the increased occurrences of injuries and fatalities to landscaping workers in the Southeast, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (“OSHA”) and landscaping industry associations are sponsoring a “Safety Stand-Down” to focus on and educate workers about industry hazards that most commonly cause injury or death. At these Safety Stand-Downs, employers will stop work voluntarily and conduct safety training on injury prevention with workers at risk for the two most frequent causes of injury or death: falls and being hit/crushed by objects. The Safety Stand-Down will also focus on electrical hazards and electrical safety. According to an OSHA press release, this Safety Stand-Down will further its goal of ensuring safe and healthful workplaces nationwide.
