Two individuals from Texas pleaded no contest to felony charges of engaging in organized criminal activity involving workers’ compensation healthcare fraud. The charges were brought in connection with an investigation into Expert Medical Evaluators, Inc., a company that provides impairments ratings and performs functional capacity evaluations.
Texas Mutual Insurance Co. alleges that the company used unlicensed providers to perform services, and overbilled them. In addition to serving three years of deferred adjudication each, the individuals are required to pay restitution, serve community service hours, and participate in any court-ordered treatment or counseling.
