Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett’s Longshore attorneys wrapped up a successful Loyola University New Orleans College of Law 2025 Annual Longshore Conference that was held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Labor on March 20 and 21, at the Four Seasons Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. The conference provided a great learning platform for maritime attorneys and claims professionals seeking proficiency in the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA), Defense Base Act (DBA), and other “extension” acts.
Managing Member Alan Brackett moderated the two-day program. Alan has served as Chairman of the Advisory Board and Seminar Moderator for the conference since 1998 and has also been panelist.
Member Chris Prudhomme was a co-presenter on the panel entitled, “Procedural Issues in Practice Before OWCP and OALJ.” Among the topics he covered were “obtaining proper service on parties,” “multiple claims for a claimant,” and “consolidation and claim handling.”
Longshore Golf Tournament
The inaugural Longshore Golf Tournament kicked off the conference week on Tuesday, March 18. Industry professionals of all skill levels came together for a day of friendly competition, stunning views at Bayou Oaks golf course in City Park, and great company. The event was proudly produced by InSpectre Solutions, with the proceeds supporting The Honorable Richard Mills Scholarship in Mediation/Arbitration. The scholarship is awarded to a Loyola University New Orleans law student who earns the highest grade in the Mediation/Arbitration class, encouraging excellence in this important area of law.
The firm sponsored hole 18, serving refreshments, emergency kits, and Lucky Dogs. Two teams of longshore attorneys and clients gave it their best shot in the golf tournament. Golfers included Patrick Babin, Rob Popich, Simone Yoder, Samantha Kaplan, Lejla Alibasic, Alexa Beuchler, Alex Domingue, Katie Fox, Tyler Loga, Ava Wolf, and John Zazulak.
Pickleball Social
Continuing the friendly competition, on Wednesday, March 19, MBLB attorneys Lejla Alibasic, Patrick Babin, Alexa Buechler, Samantha Kaplan, Natalie Morris, Simone Yoder, and guest Thomas Yoder, played in JAG International’s Pickleball Social.
Welcome Cocktail Reception
Prior to the start of the conference, on Wednesday evening, MBLB in conjunction with our vendor relationship partner InSpectre Solutions, hosted a welcome cocktail reception for industry colleagues and friends at the Napoleon House in the French Quarter.
Kudos to the speakers, Board Members, and Loyola University College of Law for hosting such a great conference.
