On July 24, 2020, Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett member Eric Winder Sella assisted with a continuing legal education (CLE) presentation, Approach the Bench, put on annually by the New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA). The Approach the Bench program provides a forum for lawyers to get to know the local, state, and federal court judges, as judges speak about general topics including practice and procedures, trial practice, motions practice, and more. It is especially designed for young lawyers and judges newer to the bench.
The second installment was presented by the Honorable Judge Greg G. Guidry from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Eric introduced Judge Guidry and moderated his program, including fielding questions from the audience of attorneys. The CLE presentation was a special introduction for Judge Guidry, who recently returned to the trial court level upon receiving his federal judicial commission on June 21, 2019. At the time of his appointment to the federal district court by President Trump, Judge Guidry was then Justice Guidry, sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court. He previously served on the Louisiana Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit and as a state court district judge in Louisiana’s 24th Judicial District for Jefferson Parish.
As with the first installment of Approach the Bench, the second installment was done entirely by Zoom Meeting rather than as a Webinar, allowing the attorneys to ask questions and converse with each other and Judge Guidry during the presentation. The interactivity is an important part of the Approach the Bench CLE series.
