On June 19, 2020, MBLB member Eric Winder Sella assisted with a continuing legal education (CLE) presentation, Approach the Bench, put on annually by the New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA). The Approach the Bench program provides a forum for lawyers to get to know the local, state, and federal court judges, as judges speak about general topics including practice and procedures, trial practice, motions practice, and more. It is especially designed for young lawyers and judges newer to the bench.
The first installment was presented by the Honorable Judge Camille Buras from Orleans Parish Criminal Court. Eric introduced Judge Buras and moderated her program, including fielding questions from the audience of attorneys. The CLE presentation was especially noteworthy given that it was done entirely by Zoom Meeting rather than as a Webinar, allowing the attorneys to ask questions and converse with each other and Judge Buras during the presentation. The interactivity is an important part of the Approach the Bench CLE series, and this installment was the first of its kind done during the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2019.
Eric is set to resume his hosting duties on July 24, 2020, for the next installment of Approach the Bench, scheduled to be presented by the Honorable Judge Greg Guidry at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
