Associate Alex Domingue was invited to speak on Longshore Act hearing loss claims at the American Equity Underwriters (AEU) National Forum, held October 1-2, 2025, in Denver.
During the presentation, “A Sound Solution: Managing Longshore Act Hearing Loss Claims and OSHA Compliance,” Alex addressed the ongoing dilemma facing employers regarding high levels of workplace noise and the challenge of managing hearing loss claims for successful outcomes while complying with OSHA’s Hearing Conservation Program requirements. The session covered how employers can:
- Identify and implement strategic steps to comply with OSHA Hearing Conservation Program
- Develop methods to mitigate or reduce the likelihood of hearing loss claims under the Lonshore Act
- Effectively manage hearing loss claims, especially when an employee has pre-existing hearing loss
American Equity Underwriters
The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) is the program administrator of the American Longshore Mutual Association, Ltd. (ALMA), a group self-insurance fund authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide USL&H coverage for the liabilities of its members under the United States Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.
AEU provides services to members of ALMA including claims handling, loss control, underwriting, longshore consulting, and leadership training. Shipbuilders, ship repairers, marine terminal operators, stevedores, marine contractors, and other waterfront employers may apply for ALMA membership through their insurance broker.
