Managing Member Alan Brackett spoke on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the annual meeting of the Supreme Court of Louisiana Historical Society at the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Alan, along with John Olivier and Harry J. “Skip” Philips, Jr., fellow members of The Historical Society Board of Directors, presented details on the efforts to commemorate the Bicentennial of the 1825 Civil Code to the Louisiana State Senate. Alan was appointed to serve as a co-chair on The Historical Society’s Steering Committee in July 2023, to assist the committee in planning a series of events to mark this occasion in 2025.

Louisiana Civil Code 1825

The Louisiana Civil Code 1825 is the codification of the civil law enacted by the Louisiana state legislature in 1825, much of it modeled on the Code Napoleon. This important milestone presents a special opportunity to celebrate Louisiana’s legal heritage and its unique place in the civilian world.

The Historical Society, which is a nonprofit dedicated to the collection and preservation of the history of the Louisiana Supreme Court, will host a gala at The National WWII Museum on the 200th Anniversary of the adoption of the 1825 Civil Code.
