Louisiana Bar Foundation Annual Gala to Raise Funds for Civil Legal Aid

Alan G. Brackett Attorney at MBLBMouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett is delighted to bring awareness to the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF). The organization will be holding its 33rd Annual Fellows Gala on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. Member Alan G. Brackett is the Chair of the gala for the second year. The goal is to raise $150,000 to support the LBF’s work funding civil legal aid in Louisiana.

This year the LBF will honor the 2018 Distinguished Jurist D. Milton Moore III; Distinguished Attorney H. Bruce Shreves; Distinguished Professor Thomas C. Galligan, Jr.; and Calogero Justice Award recipient Kendall Vick Public Law Foundation. Judges, attorneys, and law professors from across the state, will be in attendance to support the LBF’s mission.

Alan is both a fellow and a board member in LBF. As Alan notes, “Access to justice is a critical need in Louisiana. We have a high poverty population and there are several barriers to the legal system that persist.”

About the Louisiana Bar Foundation

The LBF is the largest state funder of civil legal aid, supporting service organizations throughout Louisiana that provide free, civil legal representation to the indigent, law-related education to the public and administration of justice projects. Since 1989, the LBF has distributed over $60 million to hundreds of Louisiana non-profit organizations to meet these goals. The organization funds about $6,500,000 annually.

Each year, the LBF awards grants to more than 70 non-profit organizations that provide access to the justice system and civil legal assistance to Louisiana’s low-income citizens. Through grants, it assists women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, the newly unemployed, those facing loss of their homes, disaster victims and many others by providing services that go to the very heart of the health, safety and security of Louisiana citizens.

LBF also serves as the fiscal administrator for the State of Louisiana Child in Need of Care Program, which provides free legal representation to all children in foster care, and for the Louisiana Supreme Court Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts Program.

Alan served two years as Chair of the Children’s Legal Services subcommittee and three terms as Chair of the Greater Orleans Community Partnership Panel and Grants Committee.
