Matthew L. Stedman, Of Counsel

Of Counsel Matthew L. Stedman has a wide array of valuable experience defending employers and insurance carriers against various claims brought under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, Jones Act, Louisiana Workers Compensation Act, General Maritime Law, and General Tort Law.

For the last seven years, Matthew has focused his career on exclusively defending employers and carriers against claims brought under the Defense Base Act (DBA). He was an integral part of AIG’s DBA mass mediation team, wherein numerous cases were resolved at each of the five mass mediations completed throughout his tenure, allowing him to gain substantial knowledge in this particular area of law.

Matthew leverages his years of litigation experience to effectively and efficiently defend his clients. He prides himself on his responsiveness to his clients’ needs and his ability to resolve claims/disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner. “I enjoy looking at all angles of a claim, paying attention to the smallest details, to develop a vigorous and comprehensive defense to facilitate the best resolution for my clients.”

Matthew earned his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Civil Law at Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he was a staff writer for the school’s publication, “The Civilian,” and was named to the Chancellor’s List in the Spring of 2006. During this time, he gained valuable experience in research and advocacy during a summer internship at a Washington, D.C. lobbying firm, The Livingston Group.

Matthew was born and raised in New Orleans. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
