For many years, Civil District Court in New Orleans (“CDC”) has been considered to be a liberal venue and still may be, depending upon the trial judge. However, Will Bland and Jacques DeGruy recently tried a Jones Act case in which the Court concluded that the seaman “was not worthy of belief” and dismissed all claims. Georges Legrand and Jacques DeGruy tried another Jones Act case in CDC. after the second day of trial and cross-examination of plaintiff was complete, the plaintiff and her attorneys voluntarily dismissed all claims, with prejudice, although plaintiff’s counsel had invested substantial sums in the case.
